Debra Lynkowski received her law degree from the University of Alberta in 1986. Following this, she began a career in the non-proﬁt sector and has worked at all levels - local, provincial/territorial and national.
Ms. Lynkowski is currently the Chief Operating Officer of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) is the research arm of The Ottawa Hospital, one of Canada’s largest learning and research hospitals with over 1,200 beds, approximately 12,000 staff and an annual budget of over $1.3 billion. Ranking third nationally for competitive, peer-reviewed grants from the prestigious Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Research Institute has over 2200 researchers and a budget of over $110 million.
Prior to joining OHRI, Ms. Lynkowski served as President and CEO of the Canadian Lung Association and the CEO of the Canadian Public Health Association. In both organizations, she led processes of revitalization, renewal and organizational transformation. Other leadership positions have included the National Director of Public Policy and Government Relations for the Canadian Diabetes Association, Executive Director of the Alberta and NWT Diabetes Association, and National Director of the Canadian Stroke Strategy. She currently sits on the Boards of BioCANRx, Stem Cell Network and Canadian Partnership for Stroke Recovery.
Ms. Lynkowski hails from Alberta but has made Ottawa her home for the last 20 years.
